Young Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is in the form of his life, scoring 575 runs in 13 matches so far in the ongoing IPL 2023. He has been among the runs for Mumbai in the domestic circuit and courtesy of which, former India opener Aakash Chopra believes that the 21-year-old can soon make his India debut.
Chopra also went on to add that Rinku Singh can be another exciting talent to feature in the national team soon. He lauded the Kolkata Knight Riders’ player and mentioned that the five sixes off Yash Dayal earlier in the season was not a fluke as the middle-order batter went on to score over 400 runs in the season.
“For Yashasvi, I have, in fact, kept a timeline. I feel he will be in the Indian team in the next 90 days. The other one I feel is Rinku Singh, and it is time to take him a lot more seriously. Those five sixes weren’t a fluke. He has scored around 400 or more runs and the strike rate at which they have been scored and from that batting position, there is no other option available,” Chopra was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
“Remember, these two aren’t just a T20 phenomenon. Rinku has a first-class average of 60 while Yashasvi has scored over 1000 runs in his short domestic career so far. So they have been performing in other formats as well it is just that the world tends to focus more on a player when it happens in the IPL,” he added.
Meanwhile, the race to qualify for the IPL playoffs look really difficult for both Jaiswal and Rinku at the moment. Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders have 12 points to their name from 13 games, and even if they manage to finish the league stage with a win, the net run rate will decide their fate in the competition. Currently, RR are sixth, while KKR are seventh on the IPL points table.
