With two wins under their belt from three matches, Bangladesh are one of the contenders to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup. They will next challenge team India on November 2 at Adelaide Oval and if they manage to get a win against them, they’ll eventually come closer to the semi-final spot. However, amidst such a situation, captain Shakib Al Hasan is not ready to call themselves the favourites.

On the eve of taking on team India, the 35-year-old also mentioned India being one of the favourites to lift the prestigious trophy. Downplaying themselves, Shakib believes that if Bangladesh indeed manage to beat Rohit Sharma and company, it will be called an upset and not otherwise. However, they are ready to cause one on Wednesday.

“I think it will be a good game. India are the favourites heading into the match. They have come here to win the World Cup, we are not here to win the World Cup. You can understand the situation, if we win against India, it will be an upset and we will try our best to upset India,” said Shakib in the press conference a day before game against India.

I think he is probably their No.1 batter in the last year: Shakib lauds Suryakumar Yadav ahead of their match

Suryakumar Yadav’s rise in T20I cricket in one for the books. In 2022 itself, the 32-year-old has scored 935 runs in 26 matches at a blistering strike rate of 183.69. He is someone who can change the face of the game at any point and given his form, he can be really dangerous against Bangladesh. The middle-order batter has already registered two half-centuries in the tournament and thus, Shakib is well aware of the kind of impact he can create.

“He has been playing really well for them. I think he is probably their No.1 batter in terms of the record in the last year. They have few world-class players, we have not done our team meetings yet. We will talk about the areas we need to look after in the team meetings. If we want to win, we have to take care of all the departments,” said the Bangladesh captain.
