In the third ODI between India and Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma played a blistering knock of 30 runs off 17 deliveries and became the 8th Indian batter to complete 10,000 international runs in Asia. Notably, the 35-year-old didn’t hold back and started to attack the Aussie bowlers right from the word go which gave India a confident start in the chase.
Coming to his innings, the ‘Hitman’, as he is popularly known, smacked two sixes and two boundaries to accelerate the proceedings. Even though he couldn’t build on his start, Rohit entertained everyone and joined the elite list of Indians to have scored 10000 international runs in Asia, thus rubbing shoulders with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli, among many others.
In the process, Rohit Sharma also became the sixteenth Asian to achieve this feat. Notably, Sachin Tendulkar was the first one to pull this off followed by Sri Lankan legends Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.
Suryakumar Yadav registered his third golden duck on the trot
The number-one ranked T20I player Suryakumar Yadav is yet to prove his mettle in ODI cricket. The flamboyant batter is known for his ferocious shots but in the series against Australia, he massively failed and got dismissed on the very first ball in all three matches.
With that, his future in the 50-overs format is now under the scanner, especially with players like Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda, among many others, waiting in the wings. By capitalizing on the opportunity given ahead of the all-important ODI World Cup, Yadav could have cemented his spot in the squad but following the debacle, he might have to go back, grind harder and make a comeback.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli once again played an important knock while chasing a target of 270. The former India skipper hit 54 off 72 deliveries courtesy of which, India made a strong comeback after losing a couple of quick wickets. Stumper-batter KL Rahul supported him well in the middle, scoring 32 off 50 deliveries but once both these cricketers got out, India were once again exposed to the heat.
Earlier with the ball, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav stole the show as they picked up three wickets each.
