Former South African cricketer Dale Steyn has listed his reasons behind why he feels the upcoming T20I series between India and South Africa is set to be an exciting contest. The T20I leg of the all-format series is scheduled to get underway on December 9.

Steyn pointed Shubman Gill and David Miller returning to competitive cricket as two major factors to keep an eye on for the Indian and South African supporters, respectively.

"Number one: Shubman Gill, sounds like he's back for India. That makes every fan in India pretty excited. Number two: David Miller. He's back for South Africa. Big hitting David Miller! He hits the ball out of the ground and I'm excited to watch him back," stated Steyn while speaking on JioStar.

The former pacer said that he could not wait to see the first India-South Africa contest in T20I cricket since the two teams met in the summit clash of the high-octane T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados last year.

"Number three: South Africa are taking on India in a T20. The last time I watched South Africa play India in a T20 was in a World Cup final in Barbados (T20 World Cup Final 2024). This is going to be a great watch and I am very excited to be part of it," he added.

Speaking of the ongoing series, India are coming on the back of a 2-1 win in the ODIs. They won the first and third matches in Ranchi and Visakhapatnam to seal the series. The hosts had been clean swept in the red-ball leg after defeats in Kolkata and Guwahati.

Both teams' cricket boards announced their T20I squads recently. There will be a lot of anticipation for how the series pans out, especially considering the list of explosive players selected to represent both teams.

This upcoming series will serve as a vital platform to fine-tune their squads ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 to be played in India and Sri Lanka. India and South Africa are currently placed first and fifth in the ICC Men's T20I rankings, respectively.
