India came out to bat first in the second One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. They bring along their 1-0 lead into the game and will hope to seal the three-match series today itself. However, the Proteas entered the match to show a fight as skipper Temba Bavuma came back for the Proteas.
Toss Update
The toss was yet again won by South Africa, however, Bavuma was the skipper to have called it correctly this time round. He confirmed his team's decision to bowl first without much idea of the pitch. India lost their 20th toss in a row, extending their own record. With him being in, the visiting side had to make a forced change, with a couple of strategical additions to their Playing XI as well.
Proteas make three changes; IND keep winning combo, go without Rishabh Pant
While South Africa made a quarter-full of changes to their line-up from the series opener in Ranchi, India kept their winning combination alive, as skipper KL Rahul confirmed the team's choice to head into the contest without Rishabh Pant, as the management wants to back Ruturaj Gaikwad for the No. 4 position, despite an unfortunate outing in the first match. Apart from Bavuma, South Africa also welcomed Lungi Ngidi and Keshav Maharaj to their line-ups in place of Ryan Rickelton, Ottneil Baartman and Prenelan Subrayen.
What did the captains say?
KL Rahul
"We haven't won the toss for a long time. We did really well in the last game. They pushed us and we know what to expect. Before the series, we spoke about it, we expect dew every place we play. Put runs on the board, pick wickets early. Wicket looks good. We are playing with the same team."
Temba Bavuma
"We are gonna have a bowl. We are hoping, as the dew comes in, batting gets easier. Very hard to say what it's going to play like. Lot of positives (from the last game). We have to start well. Three changes. Myself, Keshav and Ngidi come in. Big game for us."
