After their hard-fought nine-run victory in the opening game, South Africa would be hoping to seal the three-match ODI series when they face India in the second One Day International at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, October 9.

Meanwhile, it was spinner Keshav Maharaj who came out for the toss along with the Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan in the second ODI instead of regular skipper Temba Bavuma. However, Maharaj revealed the reason behind Bavuma not playing in this game as a result of which he had to be the stand-in captain.

IND vs SA: Temba Bavuma ruled out of second ODI

While speaking at the toss, Keshav Maharaj said that Temba Bavuma and Tabraiz Shamsi were not keeping well and that is why the team management had to make some forced changes. Reeza Hendricks, Bjorn Fortuin have been named in the playing XI as their replacements.

Another thing that stood out here is that the Keshav called it right at the toss and decided to bat first stating that the wicket looks good to bat on and South Africa's target will be to put runs on the board and and then go on to restrict India in the second innings.

It is to be noted that Bavuma's performances with the bat have been disappointing in the ongoing India series. He registered two ducks in the T20Is as the Proteas suffered a 1-2 defeat even though they did manage to win the third game.

He got out for just eight runs in the first ODI in Lucknow. The Proteas skipper would be expected to come good in the T20 World Cup as he gears up to lead South Africa from the front. Bavuma will be captaining the side in a second successive World T20 tournament after the previous edition.

Meanwhile, batting sensation Heinrich Klaasen also talked about how he believes in self-motivation techniques i.e. in keeping himself mentally prepared and having faith in himself and his good form with the bat.

"It's just about staying mentally ready and just believing that I'm still in good form and I have been having a fantastic year so far, so I just need to ride on that wave and keep mentally fresh and make sure the body is full of energy so that I can keep up with the intensity. Think that is the hardes part of coming in from the bench is to keep up with the intensity of the format.

I try to get into the crease with game-plan ready and I just need to try what we spoke about and what we prepped on over the last couple of years, and if it doesn't work we can live with it. Bowling plans at the backend wasn't too great in the last game, we had a chat about it and we will sort that out today and hopefully we can make some good decisions and stay nice and calm," said Klassen while speaking to the broadcasters.
