Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has come out strongly against KL Rahul's critics on a social media post on Friday, October 3. Rahul continued his fine form in red-ball cricket with a Test century against West Indies in the first Test of the ongoing series.

Kaif remarked how Rahul's "belief" and "hard work" helped Rahul come back stronger after every setback he received on his way.

“How opinions change after scoring in few innings! Now his critics say there is no one like him. Remember, KL Rahul's strength is his belief and hard work. That is what makes him rise after every fall and perform despite the pressure,” posted Kaif on his X account.

Meanwhile, former India opener Aakash Chopra had recently shed light on Rahul's sub-40 average. He provided a target for the seasoned campaigner to get his Test average to a minimum of 42 by the end of the upcoming home Test series against South Africa.

“In my opinion, this is a very important series for KL Rahul; an average of 35 does not suit him at all. It is wrong, and if he needs to better it, then he has to write his name in this series, and he batted in that way today. The backfoot punch that he plays, no one in international cricket plays it better than him. Through this series and the South Africa one, Rahul has to boost his average to 42-45,” shared Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel.

Rahul's 197-ball 100-run knock, which comprised 12 fours, was only his second Test ton at home. At Stumps on Day 2, India stood at 448/5 in 128 overs with a lead of 286 runs.

Apart from Rahul, Dhruv Jurel (125 off 210) and Ravindra Jadeja (104* off 176) also got to centuries. India will aim on extending their lead in quick time on the third day to give them as much of time to bowl West Indies out in their second innings for an innings victory.
