Sai Sudharsan will not be a part of the Indian cricket team on the field for the third day of the current Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. For the unversed, he suffered an 'impact injury' on the Day 2 of the match. According to a BCCI media release issued on Sunday, "the injury is not serious, and he is doing fine".

Sudharsan, who was fielding at forward short-leg, sustained the injury when a powerful sweep by John Campbell hit the helmet grille before settling in his hands. This incident occurred in the eighth over of the West Indian innings after India declared their first innings on 518/5 in 134.2 overs.

"He continues to be monitored by the BCCI medical team," the release further stated.

However, there was no clear clarification on whether Sudharsan would bat. Earlier in the match, Sudharsan had registered 87 off 165. The left-handed batter missed out on his maiden international hundred by 13 runs. Sudharsan's knock comprised 12 fours. He was involved in a 193-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 175 off 258. He was run-out in unfortunate circumstances while batting with skipper Shubman Gill.

India declared their first innings on 518/5 in 134.2 overs as Gill remained not-out on 129 off 196 while Nitish Kumar Reddy and Dhruv Jurel were dismissed in their 40s. Jomel Warrican picked up a three-wicket haul (3/98 in 34 overs).
