'India is a billion-dollar team'- PCB chief selector sneers at India; backs Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad to do well

Pakistan chief selector Mohammad Wasim has given a befitting reply to the critics questioning his team selection for the next month's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He cited the example of how Pakistan did well against India in some significant clashes in the last ten months.

Pakistan announced their 15-member squad on Thursday, September 15 and the selectors were heavily criticized for not addressing the middle-order woes that saw then being bowled out thrice in the Asia Cup 2022 including the final. The Green Brigade also found themselves in a spot of bother during the Super 4 clash against Afghanistan chasing 130.

This team is capable of winning: Mohammad Wasim

“India is a billion-dollar team. But we showed last year as well as this year in the Asia Cup that this team is capable of winning and I have complete faith that they will continue to give the fans happiness in the World Cup,” said Wasim while speaking to the press.

"I think you need to look at the positives too that we have played the semifinals of the last T20 World Cup and the final of the Asia Cup. So to completely discard the team on the basis of a couple of bad performances wouldn't be fair," he added.

Pakistan broke their 29-year World Cup jinx against India by handing them a thumping ten-wicket defeat in last year's T20 World Cup in UAE. Even though the Men in Green suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of the arch-rivals in the group stage match of Asia Cup 2022, they roared back in style a week later in the all-important Super 4 fixture.

The loss against Pakistan followed by a six-wicket defeat to the eventual champions Sri Lanka ended India's hopes of defending their title. As far as the last two multi-nation tournaments are concerned, the Men in Green finished as the semi-finalists in the T20 World Cup 2021 and the runners-up of the Asia Cup.
