Former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif believes that India will have a massive upper hand over Australia as the pitch curators will prepare turning tracks to help the Indian spinners take maximum wickets in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Latif also mentioned that there will be tough competition when these two powerhouses of world cricket meet but he believes that India have the ability to dominate the four-match Test series.

Notably, India are currently second in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. If Rohit Sharma and Co. manage to defeat Australia by a two-game margin, they will qualify for the final, which is slated to take place in England in June.

“I feel India will prepare turning wickets because they have to reach the World Test Championship (WTC) final. There is tough competition, but I feel India will dominate the series,” said the 54-year-old during a discussion on the YouTube Channel ‘Caught Behind’.

Rashid Latif analyses India’s batting unit

India captain Rohit has not played Test cricket since long and that remains to be a concern for the team management. Further, KL Rahul is also struggling to get going while Virat Kohli is yet to return to his best in the longest format of the game. On the other hand, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is ruled out of the first Test at Nagpur while stumper-batter Rishabh Pant is out injured following a major car accident.

Despite all this, Latif believes that India have a balanced squad and the team looks good ahead of the Test series. “The Indian team looks more balanced. Rohit Sharma has not played a lot of Test matches against Australia while batting at the top of the order. Shubman Gill is in form, Virat Kohli is there. So their team is really good,” said Latif.
