Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran battle it out to help Lucknow Super Giants post an impressive score on the board

Two sides who are vying for a place in the Indian Premier League 2024 playoffs met each other on Wednesday. KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bat first and made a few changes. Quinton De Kock and Krishnappa Gowtham came into the side for LSG.

For the SRH side it was Sri Lankan spinner Vijaykanth Viyaskanth made his debut while Sanvir Singh made his first start of the season. Pat Cummins was given a tremendous ovation as the Hyderabad skipper was celebrating his 31st birthday on Wednesday.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory – 27/2)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was in his element once more as he got two wickets early to dent the LSG team. Quinton De Kock fell early when Nitish Reddy took an amazing catch at the boundary. Sanvir Singh then took a smart low catch to dismiss Marcus Stoinis as KL Rahul yet again failed to get going with the bat and was scoring slowly.

Stat Alert: 1000 sixes in the IPL 2024

Krunal Pandya decided to break free as Lucknow batters were struggling on a sluggish pitch. Two sixes from two balls of Jaydev Unadkat made sure that the Giants came back into the and also hit the 1000th six in IPL in just 57 games.

Lucknow Super Giants – First Strategic time-out (45/2 from 8 overs)

After losing two early wickets, LSG skipper KL Rahul found it tough to time the ball. SRH bowlers kept it tight as they made sure that LSG didn’t get easy runs on the board. Krunal Pandya though came in with a positive mindset and gave his team some boost.

Lucknow Super Giants: 50 runs off 9.1 overs

KL Rahul hit the first ball of the 10th over to bring up the 50 as Lucknow finally seemed to be getting some momentum. After just 27 runs in the first 6 overs, the next 3.1 overs yielded 26 runs without loss of any wicket.

Lucknow Super Giants: 100 runs from 15 overs

Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni came out with aggressive intent and began scoring boundaries to ease the pressure off the visitors. The 100 came in 15 overs as the two were getting ready for an assault in the final five overs.

Lucknow Super Giants: Second Strategic time-out (102/4 from 15 overs)

Pat Cummins played a crucial role in the two LSG wickets falling in quick succession. KL Rahul was out for 29 caught by T Natarajan. This was followed by the run-out of Krunal Pandya for 24 thanks to a direct hit by Pat Cummins.  

Half-Century: Ayush Badoni from 28 balls

Young Ayush Badoni came to his team's rescue after the Hyderabad bowlers had kept a tight lid on the run scoring. The young batter took the attack to the opposition and added a key stand with Nicholas Pooran.

End of the Innings: Lucknow Super Giants-165/4 from 20 overs

Ayush Badoni helped Lucknow reach the 150 mark with a first-ball four off Pat Cummins. Nicholas Pooran then hit the third ball of the final over for yet another four. Nicholas Pooran hit one more boundary off Cummins before more drama ensued in the final ball of the innings. Nitish Reddy who had taken a great catch earlier saved a six to deny Pooran his half-century
