Visiting side Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the toss and chose to field first in Match 45 against the hosts, Gujarat Titans (GT). However, Sai Sudharsan and Shahrukh Khan saved GT from further collapse. Even after a top-order collapse, they dominated the RCB bowlers and managed to steer their team to 200 runs. Shahrukh, who scored his maiden IPL fifty, was well-supported by Sudharsan.

The arrival of Will Jacks was a game-changer for the RCB. Alongside star batter Virat Kohli, he formed a magical 166-run partnership during Bengaluru’s dominant 9-wicket win over Gujarat Titans. Jacks played an exceptional innings, scoring an unbeaten 100 off just 41 balls. He ensured that the visitors soared to an easy victory. Jacks finished off the game in style, smashing leggie Rashid Khan for 28 runs on his own with four sixes and a four, closing out the game with ease in just 16 overs.

Titans have their one leg out of the league

Gujarat Titans suffered a big blow at the start of this season when they lost their captain. However, the team has shown its collective strength in patches, although a couple of poor results have left them struggling in the lower mid-table. Their recent loss against RCB on Saturday has further worsened their situation. With a negative NRR, the Titans are no longer in control of their qualification chances. They will need other teams to do them a favour to make it to the knockout rounds of IPL 2024.

“I think it was great hitting by them (Kohli and Jacks.) We need to come up with better plans in the next match, also need to execute them. When you are batting you can always think of scoring 15-20 runs more. We thought 200 was a good enough total for us, unfortunately, it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to. We were not able to pick up wickets in the middle overs, I think that was the turning point for us,” said Gill in the post-match presentation ceremony.
