In the IPL 2024 clash between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, MI won the toss and chose to field. DC got off to a blazing start, with Jake Fraser McGurk smashing the MI bowlers for 84 runs off just 27 balls. Supported by Shai Hope and Rishabh Pant scoring 41 and 29 respectively, DC set a formidable total of 257 runs. Tristan Stubbs was the standout batter at death with his 48 off 25.

In response, MI struggled initially, with openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma failing to score quickly. Despite a good effort from Suryakumar Yadav, MI couldn't maintain the required run rate. Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma provided some resistance with 46 and 63 runs knocks, respectively. However,  MI still fell short by 10 runs. Needing 25 runs in the final over, MI's tailenders could only manage 15. DC emerged victorious by 10 runs, displaying a dominant performance over MI in IPL 2024.

It is worth noting that Sunrisers Hyderabad qualified for the playoffs in 2019 with the lowest-ever score of 12 points. However, this was possible when the IPL had only eight teams. In general, teams needed to win at least seven matches to have a chance of finishing in the top four. MI have an uphill task in front of them and it does make their IPL 2024 journey arduous.

MI need to pull off a steal deal against giants

To remain in the race for the playoffs, Mumbai Indians need to win four out of their remaining five matches. This is a challenging task given the tough opposition they will face. MI have already lost twice to Rajasthan Royals this season. They will play at home and away against Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively, and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede after their match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
