IPL 2025: DC co-owner Parth Jindal requests BCCI to move out Wednesday game amidst Yellow alert in Mumbai
The MI vs DC match is a potential virtual knockout and a must-win game for both sides.

With IPL 2025 reaching its business end and the fight for the playoffs spot still alive, a yellow alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for Mumbai has made the clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) scheduled for Wednesday night at the Wankhede Stadium doubtful. Expecting a potential washout, DC co-owner Parth Jindal has written to the BCCI, requesting a venue change to ensure the game goes ahead without weather interruptions.
Notably, the MI vs DC match is a potential virtual knockout and a must-win game for both sides. MI currently sits fourth with 14 points, while DC are right behind, holding the fifth position with 13 points. If MI comes out victorious, they secure a playoff berth.
If DC wins, neither side qualifies yet, making their respective final league matches, both against Punjab Kings (PBKS), the deciding factor. But if rain washes out the game and the points are shared, MI goes up to 15 and DC to 14, keeping the playoff race still alive. Meanwhile, Jindal, in his email to the BCCI, mentioned the weather concerns that could play a major role in the game.
"The forecast in Mumbai is for heavy rains and there is a strong likelihood that the game will be washed out," he wrote. "Just as the game between RCB vs SRH has been moved out of Bengaluru in the quest for consistency and in the interest of the league it is my request that tomorrow's game also be moved to a different location as we have known for the better part of 6 days that the forecast for 21st in Mumbai is for heavy showers," he wrote in his email as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

MI vs DC: What if rain washes out the IPL 2025 clash?
RCB-SRH game moved to Lucknow amidst weather concerns in Bengaluru
The IMD’s yellow alert indicates thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall for the next four days in Mumbai. On Tuesday evening, practice sessions at the Wankhede were also halted, while MI managed to finish their drills, DC's net session was halted midway due to sudden showers. The Wankhede Stadium, despite having a brilliant drainage system, is known for a soggy outfield after even brief showers due to its sand-based structure and limited covers.
MI’s previous match at the venue against the Gujarat Titans also suffered multiple stoppages and was eventually decided by the DLS method. With more rain expected, Jindal has asked for relocation of the game, just as that of the RCB vs SRH clash, due to similar weather concerns in Bengaluru. However, the board hasn't made any official announcement regarding the venue change.
