Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finished on 190/9 after being asked to bat first by Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3.
Punjab had a plan to bowl on a good length and short to the RCB batters. Phil Salt was the first batter to be dismissed. He got out in the second over to Kyle Jamieson. Mayank Agarwal hit some delightful strokes to get himself off to a start, but couldn't convert it into a big score.
Rajat Patidar also got himself a good start but departed at the wrong time. Virat Kohli was playing the anchor's role at the other end. However, he wasn't as fluent as he has been in the previous games this season. The former India skipper was dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai for a 35-ball 43.
Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma tried to up the ante with some big hits. However, both of them departed in consecutive overs towards the backend of the innings. Wickets kept tumbling at the death, with three of them coming in the 20th over bowled by Arshdeep Singh.
Jamieson, who finished with a three-for, said that bowling short was the plan. He reckoned that his team should be able to chase down the 191-run target.
"Has to be good enough for us. Good surface, slower balls weren't sticking in as much as they were the other day. Slower ones were effective two nights ago, going short was a plan we'd made. Tried to mix it up a bit with the full balls. Got wickets, Stoin (Marcus Stoinis) helped with one. My last over didn't go to plan though," Jamieson said while speaking to the broadcasters.
