The Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their next encounter at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday, May 02. There were many speculations on whether GT skipper Shubman Gill will be fit enough to play the upcoming match after facing an injury scare in the last game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
The franchise skipper and opening batter seemed to be suffering from back spasms in the match, forcing the team and management to take him off the field in the next innings. However, it seems like Gill might be fit enough to play in the game, as Titans' director of cricket Vikram Solanki has openly said in the pre-match press conference that he will be training today and is confident for Gill to be match fit for the game on Friday.
“His fitness, there was a bit of a back spasm. We’re just trying to be careful with it. He'll be at training today. We'll just see where he's at. We're reasonably confident that he's going to be OK,” Solanki said on the GT skipper’s fitness update ahead of the game.
Solanki further went on to discuss the game against the Royals, where they faced a shocking loss due to a phenomenal innings from Vaibhav Suryavanshi in Jaipur.
“Firstly, I don't think the team has been decimated or anything of the sort. We mustn't take any credit away from that young man. He (Suryavanshi) played quite brilliantly, Of course, we could have done things differently. We could have bowled in a slightly more controlling manner, we could have sort of shut him down perhaps,” the GT director added further on the game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
We must pay the due respect that SRH deserves: Solanki
Solanki has discussed the upcoming match in the IPL and, despite seeing the Orange Army struggle, he has said that they should still give the team their due respect, seeing the number of match-winners in their team who can change the game completely.
“We must pay the due respect that SRH deserves. They are a very strong team. We will be conscious of the threat that they have. They've got match-winners across their team," Solanki concluded.
On the Points Table, GT currently find themselves at the fourth place with six wins in nine games. In the game against Hyderabad, GT have a golden opportunity to strengthen their position at the table, as a win would take them a position higher. As a result, Gill & Co. will look to give it their all in the upcoming all-important clash at Motera.
