Delhi Capitals’ all-rounder Vipraj Nigam has filed a police complaint against a woman for allegedly harassing and threatening him over the past two months. The 25-year-old cricketer, who had an impressive debut IPL season in 2025, approached the Kotwali Nagar police station in Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh, after receiving multiple threat calls and messages from international numbers.

According to reports, Nigam began receiving threatening and abusive messages in September 2025. Initially, the harassment started from a single mobile number, but after he blocked it, the same individual allegedly used several international numbers to continue the intimidation. The accused, identified as Richa Purohit, reportedly threatened to implicate the cricketer in false criminal cases if he did not comply with her demands.

Nigam, a resident of Awas Vikas Colony in Barabanki, said the harassment escalated when the woman began circulating objectionable and fabricated content, including fake videos on social media, tarnishing his image. The cricketer also claimed that the accused extended the threats to his family members and close acquaintances, causing him significant mental distress.

The person began using several foreign numbers to harass me: Vipraj

Based on Nigam’s complaint, an FIR has been registered under sections 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (insult and provocation to breach peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Superintendent of Police (SP) Arpit Vijayvargiya confirmed the registration of the case and stated that an investigation is underway to trace the source of the international calls and verify the allegations.

“Initially, the calls were made from a mobile number, but after I blocked it, the same person began using several foreign numbers to harass me,” the cricketer was quoted as saying in the report.

Meanwhile, Nigam was picked by the Delhi Capitals for INR 50 lakh ahead of the IPL 2025 season. The young all-rounder made a strong impression in his debut year, contributing both with bat and ball. In 14 matches, he scored 142 runs and took 11 wickets. He will be next seen playing for India A in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa, starting on 13th November.
