Former Baroda Ranji team player Narayan Satham passed away on Sunday, February 12. As per several reports, heart attack was the cause of Satham’s demise. The former all-rounder was 73 years old and had become a coach after his retirement from cricket. In his prime, Satham was widely regarded as one of the best all-rounders in Baroda back in the 1970s and 80s.

Satham was a coach to many former cricketers who represented India on the biggest stage. Irfan Pathan and Kiran More are some of the many. Satham also played for the West Zone in the Duleep Trophy, where he shared the dressing room with the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Ashok Mankad, and Ajit Wadekar.

Kiran More took to Twitter to express his grief over the loss of his former coach. "Today is a very sad day for me personally. My mentor, coach, and Guru, Narayan Rao Satham, has passed away. What I have achieved till today was all because of him. I am going to miss him, and this is a big loss for Baroda," More tweeted.

Many people paid their respects to Narayan Satham

Considered a legend of the game in Baroda, many authoritative figures came forward to talk about Satham’s passing. "Satham was a very passionate sportsman, and the cricketing community will feel his loss. Just a week ago, I had a word with him about cricket development in Vadodara, and I also inquired about his health. He groomed many cricketers in the city and helped in improving the cricketing standards," Pranav Amin, the president of the Baroda Cricket Association, was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Former coach of the Indian cricket team, Anshuman Gaekwad, also shared his thoughts on the 73-year-old's demise. He opined that Satham’s influence was key for him in his cricketing journey and that he did not expect his demise.

Narayan Satham’s influence is evident in Baroda; the 73-year-old was an excellent player and became an even better coach in his later years. He is survived by his wife and son.
