'It may be a bad call to shift from MCG but there are couple of other venues that can be easy' - Stuart Law on rain-marred matches at MCG

Out of five matches that have been played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground so far in the 2022 T20 World Cup, three of them were abandoned due of rain. However, despite being 90% chance of rain at one point, India versus Pakistan blockbuster went ahead without any problem. Thus, there has been a lot of debate going on about whether the ICC should change the venue from MCG to any other stadium.

Stuart Law, the former Australia international, feels that it will be difficult for the governing body to shift the venue in the middle of the tournament but at the moment, it is the easier option. More so, because on Friday, October 28, two important games of Afghanistan versus Ireland and Australia versus England were called off and that will play a massive role in how Group 1 of the Super 12 will shape up in the end. 

“Melbourne at this time of the year - it’s difficult to predict the weather. Whether or not you say it to ICC or Cricket Australia to move up games away from MCG. It’s not something that the players want either. They want to play at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. It’s an amazing stadium to play in and particularly when you get a big crowd, the atmosphere is unbelievable. So, to take it away from the MCG may be a bad call but there are couple of other venues that could be easy,” said Law on changing MCC as a venue in the ongoing T20 World Cup at 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.'

Justice was done by both teams getting a point each: Farokh Engineer on Australia vs England washed out game

Regarded as one of the greatest rivalries in world cricket, Australia versus England game always brings passion, dedication, ecstasy and of course hardships on the field. However, on October 28 with the game not being played, the teams now face a difficult challenge to stay in the race and win their second T20 World Cup. Former cricketer Farokh Engineer believes that justice was served by giving one point each to the teams as a five-over game would have been a bad option.

“Even if they had a five-over contest, that isn’t a game of cricket. It’s just pure brute slogging. That would have been further injustice to one of the top teams going off. In 5 overs, what the hell can you do? Just close your eyes and slog. That wouldn’t have been fair either. So maybe justice was done by both teams getting a point each,” said the former cricketer on the same show.
