'It will be a cracking semi if that's the case' - Megan Schutt expresses her desire to play against India in semi-finals

Australia became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. Meg Lanning’s side won all four matches to top the Group 1 table and sealed their berth in the semi-finals. The defending champions now await the qualification of the other teams from Group 2 to know about their opponents in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, the Australian pacer Megan Schutt has said that playing against India would make for a cracking contest. From Group 2, England became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals after the West Indies defeated Pakistan on Sunday, February 19. The Heather Knight-led side defeated India in the group stage encounter by 11 runs.

England will finish at the top of Group 2 if they manage to beat Pakistan in their last group game. In that case, India will have to win their last fixture against Ireland or finish at a better net run rate than the West Indies to secure second place on the points table and will face Australia in the semi-finals.

"It's probably a good thing if we come up against India because we played them not that long ago. I feel like both teams know each other inside out and have had some really good competition recently," Schutt told cricket.com.au.

"It will be a cracking semi if that's the case, we don't really know who we're playing, it's not locked in just yet, but I think it'd be an amazing game."

Schutt also expressed her happiness with the fact that Australia reached the semi-finals undefeated. She said that Australia is looking good in all three departments in the tricky conditions of South Africa.

"Going through the rounds undefeated is really cool, it's something we've not done in a little while in a T20 World Cup," Schutt said. "I think our cricket is finally starting to click a little bit in all three facets so that's pretty nice heading into the semis."
