Jalaj Saxena, India's unsung domestic hero, joins Maharashtra for upcoming season

Seasoned all-rounder Jalaj Saxena has joined Maharashtra on Saturday, September 13 ahead of the 2025-26 Indian domestic season. Jalaj has played a total of 150 First-Class,109 List A and 73 T20s so far. He was a part of the structure at Kerala since the 2016-17 season, and was also a part of the squad that made was the runners-up in the 2024-25 season.
The Maharashtra Cricket Association published a press release in which they welcomed Saxena into their ranks, praising his all-round cricketing acumen in addition to batting and bowling skills. It also mentioned that Saxena's ability to guide youngsters will be a big positive for them.
“Jalaj Saxena is one of India’s most accomplished and versatile all-rounders in domestic cricket. His career is distinguished by outstanding performances across all formats, earning widespread recognition from cricket experts and analysts. His strengths extend beyond just batting and bowling. Saxena’s deep understanding of the game, tactical acumen, ability to perform under pressure, and his willingness to mentor younger players make him an invaluable asset to the Maharashtra squad,” stated the release, as quoted by The Hindu.
Originally from Madhya Pradesh, the cricketer has registered 7,060 runs at an average of 33.77 in the 150 First Class matches to have been played, recording 34 half-centuries and 14 tons. His right-arm off-spin has helped him claim 484 wickets, which comprised 34 five-wicket hauls in the format. Jalaj has immense experience in the white-ball arena too.
The 38-year-old remarked that he was excited to be a part of the Maharashtra unit and also credited the Maharashtra Premier League for being a source of the several emerging talents that the state has been witnessing entering their state system.
"It is a matter of great pride for me to join the Maharashtra cricket team. Maharashtra cricket has a rich legacy, and I am fully prepared to contribute my best for the team,” he said. It is an honour to play alongside players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prithvi Shaw, and Ankit Bawne, as well as many talented newcomers. The Maharashtra Premier League is an excellent platform that helps upcoming players showcase their talent,” he added.

Harshal joins Gujarat for 2025/26 domestic season
Jalaj will be joining Prithvi Shaw as Maharashtra's second big signing as a guest professional for the upcoming season. Shaw, a whole and sole Mumbaiker up until now, joined the forces with the neighbouring side to stage a comeback. Australia’s Shaun Williams, who has been brought back as Maharashtra's Director of Cricket, will add as a significant reinforcement too. Maharashtra will open their domestic season on October 15.
