“That’s a really good question. To be honest, I’m not really sure. What I do know is that you’ll see in my time with Pakistan that I’ll be very transparent and very open," Gillespie said.

Former Australian pacer Jason Gillespie was recently named the head coach of Pakistan’s Test side. Following a recruitment process, Gillespie was signed with Pakistan over a two-year contract.
It is interesting to note that the position of head coach has been vacant since Grant Bradburn quit in January to join Glamorgan as head coach. Gillespie was appointed after the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) went after the likes of Shane Watson, who ultimately pulled out of the race.
After the appointment, Gillespie took part in an interview where he was asked about his plans for Pakistan cricket and how he plans to conduct himself and the Test squad. The former pacer opined that the goal is to be very clear and concise with the side.
“That’s a really good question. To be honest, I’m not really sure. What I do know is that you’ll see in my time with Pakistan that I’ll be very transparent and very open. The team will be going out there and playing the way we want to play. I want to give the players a lot of ownership of the team and how they go about it. We will play as a team and have fun,” Gillespie said in an episode of the PCB podcast.

Furthermore, Gillespie revealed that his philosophy consists of developing a winning mentality and that he will be trying his best to facilitate and develop that mentality among the players in the longest format.
“I just hope in my time with Pakistan, we’ll give it our best shot. We’re certainly not here just to compete; we’re here to win. And I’ll be doing my best to try and help facilitate that. I want people to know that I’m here to help. I want to assure the people of Pakistan that there won’t be any lack of effort, and I’ll be putting all my efforts into helping this team get better,” Gillespie said.
