The Madras High Court on Monday decided that they will be hearing the contempt of court plea of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni against Tamil Nadu cadre IPS officer Sampath Kumar. The court will be hearing the plea on Thursday, June 15, as the court hears contempt of court cases only on Thursdays.
Dhoni filed the complaint against the IPS officer following the latter’s remarks, which were written in response to the INR 100 crore defamation suit filed by Dhoni for having him named in the infamous IPL betting scam in 2013.
The Advocate General of Tamil Nadu, R. Shanmugasundaram, has reportedly granted the 41-year-old permission to move his case petition. The Advocate General granted permission to MS Dhoni after it was agreed that the remarks made by Sampath Kumar amounted to scandalising court proceedings.
The betting and match-fixing bombshell was dropped back in 2014, which saw many players from Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals banned along with the franchises for the IPL 2016 and 2017 seasons.
MS Dhoni recently won his fifth IPL title
Recently, MS Dhoni solidified his name as one of the greatest captains in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 41-year-old pulled off one of the greatest comebacks as Chennai Super Kings, who finished in ninth place in the standings in IPL 2022, emerged victorious in 2023. The four-time champions came in with all guns blazing in the 16th edition of the tournament and became five-time IPL champions.
Chennai finished the group stages of the IPL 2023 in second place in the standings with 17 points in 14 matches. Securing their place in the knockout stages, Chennai became the first side to qualify for the summit clash of the marquee tournament after they defeated Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1.
They took on the Hardik Pandya-led side once again in the IPL 2023 final. Rain played spoilsport on May 28 as the final was pushed to the reserve day. In the thrilling clash, Chennai chased down a revised DLS target of 171 runs in 15 overs to become the IPL 2023 champions.
