The number one ranked T20I batter in the world, Mohammad Rizwan’s shocking statement has now been revealed by Sikander Bakht on national television. Rizwan, who was the leading run scorer in the Asia Cup, apparently informed people that he will not allow the former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed to make his return to the national squad.
Sarfaraz who won the National T20 Cup for Sindh had a decent tournament and thus, some of the experts of the game wanted to see him back in the national squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The chief selector Mohammad Wasim along with other selectors however didn’t feel the same as the Men in Green named Mohammad Haris as one of the reserves instead of Sarfaraz.
Now, ever since Bakht revealed Rizwan’s bold statement, controversies broke out about whether the wicketkeeper-batter has any role to play in that.
“Sarfaraz will not play now. Our cricket community is quite small, so we get to know a lot of things. A cricketer who does programmes with us told us that Rizwan said, “main Sarfaraz ko kabhi aane nahi dunga” (I won't let Sarfaraz return to the Pakistan team). That's because when Sarfaraz was there, he didn't let Rizwan play. So now it's the opposite. This is what I have heard. I might be wrong,” Bakht revealed on Pakistan's television channel Geo Super.
Even though the former Pakistan international clarified that he might be wrong but Bhakt’s statement is not well-taken in their cricketing community.
Mohammad Rizwan’s 68 went in vain as England defeated Pakistan in the first T20I
Talking of Rizwan's on field developments, he is currently with his team playing seven T20Is against England. Talking of the first T20I, despite a good start, Men in green failed to capitalise as they lost the first match against England by 6 wickets. Batting first, the Men in Green put 158 on board but the English batters had no trouble chasing it down. Mohammad Rizwan played a valuable knock of 68 runs in 46 balls but their middle order once again failed to reciprocate the start that Pakistan got.
Rizwan’s strike rate was a major concern in the Asia Cup but in the first T20I, he improved himself and that’s a positive sign for Pakistan before the T20 World Cup. However, with six more games left to be played in the series, there are a lot of tests that Rizwan will have to go through.
