The Mumbai Cricket association (MCA) has now made it mandatory for the Mumbai Players to feature in the T20 Mumbai league, according to the latest developments. There might be some big cricketers from the Mumbai domestic side who will be playing in the regional T20 tournament which is set to take place after IPL this season, where stars like Shardul Thakur, Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw have been asked to enrol themselves.
The league stage of the IPL is almost halfway done; however, that does not mean that the T20 fever will be over, since straight after the global franchise tournament, the T20 Mumbai League will be taking place. The MCA has made it clear that all the Mumbai star players will be part of the tournament, including the likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Prithvi Shaw, and Shivam Dube, unless they are busy on national duty.
“All Mumbai’s Indian players have been informed that they have to play the T20 Mumbai League, which will begin after the IPL. It’s mandatory, unless those, who have India commitment or injury issues, they can skip," an MCA official said as quoted by The Indian Express.
“Indian players will be paid 15 lakh separately by the association as a participation fee, plus they will earn separately from the auction fees. We are working on the base price and other details,” the official added.
On another note, it is also expected that Rohit Sharma, India's two-format captain who hails from Mumbai, will be made the "Face of the League" for wide spreading the popularity of the domestic tournament. However, there are still doubts over the participation of the star batter in the league, and whether he will captain any side.
2800 players registered for the tournament
The Mumbai T20 league seems to have had an impressive run so far, and even MCA secretary Abhay Hadap has given all his praises about the league. Hadap mentioned how there is a great response towards the third season and that, a whopping 2800 players have registered for the upcoming tournament.
“The response to Season 3 of the T20 Mumbai League has been phenomenal. The fact that over 2800 players have registered speaks volumes about both the popularity of the league and the undying cricket passion of Mumbaikars. We are thrilled to see such enthusiastic participation and remain committed to nurturing the next generation of cricket stars,” Hadap said in his statement.
