The Namibian cricket team will be playing against South Africa for the first time in international cricket in a one-off T20I on 11 October. The match is set to be hosted by the associate nation at their newly constructed stadium in Windhoek.
The new Windhoek Stadium has been under construction since 2021 and will have a capacity of 7,000. The venue is also the home of Namibia’s high-performance centre. The Windhoek Stadium is also set to co-host the 2026 Men's U-19 World Cup and the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup along with South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Cricket Namibia CEO Johann Muller has expressed his joy at playing the game against their neighbouring African nation, saying that the new ground has been a dream which has finally materialised after four years, and the game against South Africa will be a perfect way to commemorate the facility.
“This truly is a memorable occasion. The new ground has been a dream for the last four years and has finally materialised. A match against our neighbours, and one of the top cricketing countries in the world, is the perfect way to open this world-class facility," Muller was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
