Stiffness on Kyle Jamieson's left side has ruled him out of the three-match ODI series between New Zealand and England. The right-arm pacer, also among the more experienced for the BlackCaps in the original line-up for the series, played the T20I leg of the assignment, but faced some discomfort in his side ahead of the opening ODI in Mount Mauganui.

Jamieson felt the discomfort during training on Saturday, October 25. He is understood to return to Christchurch for further assessment in order to make a comeback for the Kiwis for their multi-format series against West Indies across November and December.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Head coach Rob Walter, while confirming that a replacement will be named shortly, mentioned the situation and explained Jamieson's non-inclusion in the 50-over squad by saying that the management did not want to risk the pacer by playing him right away.

"Kyle experienced some stiffness in his side after bowling today (Saturday) and we didn't want to take any risks at this stage of the summer. We felt it was best for him to sit out this one-day series and give himself the best chance of being ready for the West Indies tour which starts on November 5 in Auckland," stated Walter, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Before the two T20Is against England and the one T20I against Australia, Jamieson was involved with Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. He picked up five wickets in four matches while conceding runs at an economy rate of 9.80.

Speaking of Jamieson's international career, he has played 17 ODIs, 18 T20Is and 19 Tests for New Zealand thus far since making his debut in 2020 against India. Jamieson is yet to pick up a five-wicket haul in his white-ball career, and it seems like he will have to wait a bit for attaining that feat with this latest injury setback.

The Three Lions, meanwhile, enter the ODIs after a 1-0 win in the T20Is. The first and third T20Is were washed out after only 20 and 3.4 overs could be bowled during the matches, respectively. The ODIs will be played on October 26 (Sunday), October 29, and November 1, respectively.
