Who won New Zealand vs West Indies 2nd ODI today? — Match result & turning points
New Zealand won the second ODI of the three-match series against the West Indies by five wickets and three balls to spare at the McLean Park in Napier. With this, they clinched the series with a game to spare. The Mitchell Santner-led unit had won the first match by seven runs.
Shai Hope brought up his 19th ODI ton and his first against New Zealand, as he emerged unbeaten right till the end to play a captain's knock. West Indies ended at 247/9 at the end of 34 overs in a rain-shortened contest after almost three hours were lost due to the weather.
Three other West Indians scored 22 and one scored 21 in what was an otherwise underwhelming performance. Hope's 69-ball knock scored 13 fours and four sixes. Nathan Smith and Kyle Jamieson picked up three and four wickets, respectively.
The Kiwis were off to a solid start with the bat. The first wicket of the run-chase fell moments after the century stand was attained. Rachin Ravindra's 46-ball innings comprised four fours and five sixes. West Indies pulled things back by taking two wickets in consecutive overs. The set batter in the form of Devon Conway was dismissed for 90 off 84.
Just when it seemed that the match was slipping out of their hands, skipper Santner and Tom Latham provided some late fireworks to ensure that their team got over the line in what turned out to be yet another final-over thriller. Every other bowler barring Romario Shepherd picked up one wicket, but it was not meant to be for the tourists.
Top batting performances of the match — Shai Hope
Although in a losing cause, Hope's innings proved vital in pushing West Indies to a fighting total. He kept on batting at a brisk rate despite the fall of wickets around him. The Windies would have folded for a lot less had Hope not batted in the manner he did.
Just another batting MASTERCLASS 😮💨👌

Smith picked up a wicket in his first over itself. He then broke a crucial sixth-wicket stand to pick up his third. The dangerous Matthew Forde departed off Smith's bowling, too. The 27-year-old ended up with career-best ODI figures.
