Prominent Indian commentator Padamjeet Sehrawat recently reflected on a heated incident involving Australian batting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag during what seems as the 2017 installment of the Indian Premier League. Out of the 13 IPL seasons Maxwell played in, he played six while featuring for the Punjab-based franchise.
Calling Maxwell 'arrogant', Sehrawat recollected how Maxwell was pushed to apologise in public by Sehwag after the Australian had verbally abused a bowler from the Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) setup.
“There was a bowler in Punjab Kings whom Glenn Maxwell had insulted. Coach Virender Sehwag instantly brought everyone together and forced Maxwell to apologize, to which he did,” stated Sehrawat during an interaction on an Aajtak podcast.
For the unversed, Maxwell and Sehwag have not shared the best of interpersonal relationships. In late 2024, Maxwell had given a detailed breakdown of their strained relationship through his book. The all-rounder also revealed how he was removed from the team's WhatsApp group by Sehwag Maxwell, who had released a book, shared how Sehwag dropped his name from the team's WhatsApp group and tagged him as a big disappointment after KXIP failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2017.
Maxwell, who was recently a part of PBKS in 2025, recently announced that he will not be participating in the upcoming instalment. As for Sehwag, he was involved with the franchise from 2016 to 2018, taking up the roles of mentor and head of cricket operations and strategy. He was also a player for the same team in 2014 and 2015.
Maxwell rules himself out of contention for IPL auction
Maxwell was bought back by the franchise during the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025 despite a severely underwhelming 2024 season. However, he could not deliver as per expectations. For a second straight season, he did not even cross an average of 10. In fact, in the six innings he played for PBKS, he struck at only 97.95, which is pretty disappointing considering his reputation of being a powerful hitter.
Earlier in the year, Maxwell hung up his boots from ODI cricket, wanting to focus solely on the 20-over format. With the T20 World Cup arriving happening in February 2026, it will be interesting to see what the Victorian cricketer does in national jersey.
