PBKS Squad 2023 Player List: Complete Punjab Kings (PBKS) Squad and Players List for IPL 2023

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) broke the bank to sign English all-rounder Sam Curran for a record INR 18.50 crore in the IPL 2023 mini-auction as he became the most expensive player in IPL history. Punjab Kings entered the bid after the price crossed INR 11 crore and beat Mumbai Indians with a final bid.

As expected, PBKS were first to bid for their former captain Mayank Agarwal but were knocked out in the bidding war by Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, they managed to sign star Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza at his base price of INR 50 lakh. PBKS also showed strong interest in uncapped pacer Mukesh Kumar but lost to Delhi Capitals, who bagged him for INR 5.5 crore.

PBKS got the experienced Chhattisgarh batter Harpreet Bhatia for INR 40 lakh in accelerated round. They also won signed young Karnataka pacer Vidwath Kaverappa alongside uncapped Indian cricketers Shivam Singh and Mohit Rathe at their base prices of INR 20 lakh each.

Punjab Kings entered the 2023 auction with the second-largest purse of INR 32.2 crore as they released nine players, including captain Mayank Agarwal. Before the auction, they had 16 players in their roster, including five overseas cricketers. They also released Caribbean all-rounder Odean Smith and needed direct replacements for both Mayank and Odean. 

PBKS have their top-order sorted with newly appointed captain Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow as openers. They have Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Shahrukh Khan, and Liam Livingstone in the middle-order and the signings of Curran and Raza hugely boost their chances in IPL 2023.

In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada form a strong pace duo but they lag quality spinners with Rahul Chahar set to lead that department. Raza can offer a good backup spin option, however, it remains to be seen if he will be a first-choice player. Punjab Kings seemed content with their activities and left the auction with INR 12.20 crore, with a sqaud of 22 players for the IPL 2023.
