Newly appointed BCCI president Roger Binny heaped praises on Virat Kohli and dubbed his match-winning knock of 82*(53) against Pakistan as a dream and a treat for the viewers. It was the campaign opener for the two teams at the T20 World Cup 2022 at the MCG in Melbourne, and the game went on till the final delivery of the final over before India clinched a victory.

India-Pakistan matches are always special for the players and fans of both teams. And this game was memorable for the Indians as they had suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the T20 World Cup last year. Binny referred to India vs Pakistan game as a rarity and a pleasure for the spectators who swarm the stadiums to see such games.

"It was like a dream for me. Couldn't realise the way the ball was being hit in the park by Kohli. It was a fantastic victory. You never see such matches where most of the time the match was in Pakistan's favour and all of a sudden it came back to India. Good for the game as it's what the crowd wants to see," expressed Binny at his felicitation ceremony at the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Friday.

Kohli, India’s former skipper, had been out of form for quite some time, but the Asia Cup 2022 did wonders for him. Ahead of the continental tournament, he had taken a break from cricket and had missed a couple of bilateral series. He returned back in style, and went on to claim his maiden T20I century, which was also his 71st international hundred.

"Kohli didn't have to prove himself. He is a class player and players like him thrive in pressure situations, pressure brings out the best of them,” the BCCI president further added.

People should appreciate the way India played to win the game: Binny

The India-Pakistan fixture also saw a controversy brewing. One of Mohammad Nawaz’s delivery in the final over was adjudged as a no-ball, and there are critics who claim that it wasn’t a waist-high ball. Speaking of that, Binny added:

“When you lose the game, you should take it squarely and fairly, people should appreciate the way India played to win the game.”
