Out-of-favour India batter and North Mumbai Panthers skipper Prithvi Shaw lit up the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai with a fiery 75 off just 34 balls in their T20 Mumbai League clash against Triumph Knights MNE on June 8. But, the team has already been eliminated from the tournament.

Shaw opened the innings alongside Divyansh Saxena, and began silently but changed gears in the fourth over by hammering a six and three consecutive fours off Parth Naik. The onslaught continued in the very next over, as Shaw took Minad Manjrekar to the fences, smashing 26 runs off the over that included a six and five boundaries down the ground.

He brought up his half-century in the final ball of the powerplay, sliding a single to mid-wicket off Shreyas Gurav, reaching the landmark on the 23rd delivery that he faced. The youngster, who famously led India to U-19 World Cup win in 2018, continued to attack after the powerplay, falling for 75 in the 10th over, dismissed off a Suryansh Shedge delivery caught by Naik. His breathtaking knock included 12 fours and three sixes.

Despite Shaw’s fireworks in the clash, North Mumbai Panthers have already been knocked out of the tournament. They sit at the bottom of the points table and have won just one of their four matches. Triumph Knights MNE, who also failed to progress and are placed fifth, have also been eliminated. The North Mumbai Panthers were the champions of the T20 Mumbai league in 2019, where the Triumph Knights were also the inaugural champions.

The four teams advancing to the semi-finals are Eagle Thane Strikers, NaMo Bandra Blasters, SoBo Mumbai Falcons, and Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals. The semi-finals are scheduled to be played on Tuesday, June 10, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
