Arjun Sharma and Mohit Jangra starred with hat-tricks apiece to crush Assam on Day 1 of the ongoing 2025-26 Ranji Trophy clash between Assam and Services at the Tinsukia District Sports Association Ground on Saturday, October 25. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 103 in 17.2 overs in Tinsukia on Day 1 of the ongoing second round clash of the competition.
Arjun picked up wickets of three consecutive deliveries in the 11th over. The left-arm spinner's first wicket of the over was captain Riyan Parag (36 off 31). Jangra's hat-trick came across two separate overs to cap a historic milestone. One of Jangra's wickets was Pradyun Saikia (52 off 46).
Arjun became the first cricketer to pick up a hat-trick in the Ranji Trophy after Shardul Thakur, whereas Jangra became the third, naturally. The Mumbai cricketer had secured three in three during their against Meghalaya in January 2025. Shardul had emerged as the Player of the Match in the contest where Mumbai won by a whopping margin of an innings and 456 runs.
Speaking of the Assam-Services match, Arjun and Jangra ended with figures of 5/46 in 6.2 overs and 3/5 in 4 overs, respectively. Services secured the first innings lead, but by the barest of margins possible. Parag, who had earlier struck two fours and three sixes on his way to 36, picked up a five-wicket haul (5/25 in 10 overs). Rahul Singh finished with four scalps to his name.
Irfan Khan remained not-out till the end to score 51 off 81. Only two others from the away side got to double digits. 5/25 became Parag's best bowling figures in First-Class cricket. However, his and Rahul's magnificent effort with the ball could not ensure the first innings lead to Assam.

Services won their opening game of the ongoing red-ball season by an innings and 20 runs against Tripura. On the other hand, Assam drew with Gujarat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad but lost out on gaining the first innings lead in that match as well.
