KL Rahul has batted in different positions in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and scored important runs for his team. If reports are to be believed, the 33-year-old could be in line for a T20I comeback. The Delhi Capitals (DC) star has not played in the shortest format for India since their defeat to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final.

However, the wicketkeeper-batter has been scoring runs in whatever opportunities he has had in T20 cricket during his time away from the Indian T20I lineup. In IPL 2025, he has produced some stellar performances. Starting as a No. 4 batter, Rahul opened the innings against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday, May 18, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and scored a mesmerising 112* off 65 balls, belting 14 fours and four sixes.

In the ongoing IPL 2025, Rahul has scored 493 runs from 11 innings at an average of 61.60 and a strike rate of 148.10. According to a Times of India (TOI) report, the Karnataka cricketer is in contention to make a comeback to the T20I side when India face Bangladesh in a three-match series in August.

Moody on criticism towards KL Rahul

India has had some swashbuckling batters opening in T20I cricket in recent years. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Abhishek Sharma have shown that they can go after the bowling from ball one. Rahul, on the other hand, was someone who looked to get his eye in before playing the big shots. However, that mindset has changed and the experienced campaigned in putting the bowlers to the sword from the outset.

India will be looking to win the T20 World Cup in 2026 and retain the coveted title. The marquee event will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Rahul, who was a vital cog in India's Champions Trophy-winning campaign earlier this year, could play a pivotal role in the T20 World Cup with his experience.
