Reports: Rajasthan Cricket Association accused of presenting fake GST bills to CGST department

Rajasthan Royals management is also under the scanner and a strict action will be taken if found guilty.

The renowned Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, will be hosting their third match of the IPL 2023 on Friday, May 5, between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans. However, ahead of the game Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has landed in a controversy as they have been accused of forgery. 

The transactions done by RCA are being investigated after Rajasthan Cricket Association were issued a notice by the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) department on Thursday, May 4, for fraudulently claiming an input tax credit of Rs 22 crore. According to reports, Rajasthan Royals management is also under the scanner.

According to a report in News18, Rajasthan Cricket Association deposited INR 10 Crore in the Central Goods and Services Tax Department in a hurry after the notice. The CGST team is currently investing the matter thoroughly.

Notably, ahead of the IPL 2023 construction work worth INR 22 crore was done at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The report further states that Rajasthan Cricket Association and Rajasthan Royals allegedly evaded tax and the investigation began after the CGST team came to know about the fact. 

During the probe, tax evasion worth crores of rupees was found in documents regarding the distribution of complimentary tickets for the match. However, according to some sources, GST bills were produced by the Rajasthan Cricket Association and Rajasthan Royals regarding the construction done in the stadium and complimentary passes issued before the IPL match.

RCA presented fake GST bills to CGST departments: Reports

During the investigation by the CGST department, most of these bills were found to be fake. Following the shocking revelation, since Thursday evening, the CGST department is investigating the RCA and Rajasthan Royals management.

If found guilty, the Rajasthan Cricket Association and Rajasthan Royals Management are likely to face strict action with the possibility of arrest looming as well. Both the Rajasthan Cricket Association and the officials of the Central Goods and Services Tax Department are refraining from commenting anything on the matter.

Meanwhile, the match between RR and GT is all set to undergo in the evening at 7:30 PM.
