Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will finish an underwhelming campaign in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL) with a clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, May 27.

Ahead of the high-voltage encounter, LSG pacer Akash Deep explained the importance of timing while defending his captain, Rishabh Pant. The wicketkeeper-batter was roped in by the LSG management for INR 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, making him the costliest player in the tournament's history. Pant was subsequently appointed as the captain of the side. However, he had a dismal outing with the bat in IPL 2025, and his captaincy also left a lot to be desired.

“Look, I feel that in cricket, timing is also something very important. I don’t think it’s about pressure because Rishabh has played a lot of cricket, and at a very high level too, and he has performed as well. An athlete who has achieved so much in life knows how to handle pressure. So I don’t think pressure is the reason. It’s more about timing—sometimes you want to do something, but it just doesn’t happen. I feel that’s the phase Rishabh is going through right now," Akash said in the pre-match press conference.

Playoff stop in jeopardy as Pant looks for strong finish

Under Rishabh Pant's leadership, Lucknow have managed six wins and seven defeats. As a result, they are placed seventh in the IPL points table. A win against RCB will help them finish at No. 6. Rajat Patidar-led RCB, on the other hand, will know the importance of this game as a win would take them to Qualifier 1, where Punjab Kings are waiting.

Pant has scored just 151 runs from 12 innings at an average of 13.73 and a strike rate of 107.10 in the ongoing IPL 2025. He looked in decent touch in LSG's last game against Gujarat Titans as he scored an unbeaten 16 off six balls with the help of two sixes. The 27-year-old will want to finish his campaign on a high on Tuesday.
