Former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik felt that the injured Rishabh Pant should consider sharing his match fees with substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. Karthik's on-air remarks came on Day 4 of the third Test of the ongoing five-match series between England and India. Notably, Pant was replaced by his deputy after the former got injured on the opening day of the game.

As per the fresh ICC guidelines, Jurel was allowed to replace Pant as the substitute wicketkeeper after Pant incurred a painful blow to the index finger of his left hand while trying to catch one of Jasprit Bumrah's deliveries in the 34th over of Day 1 at Lord's. Despite the southpaw chugging water and consuming some medications, he had to leave the field in the subsequent over.

“Rishabh Pant should share his match fees with Dhruv Jurel,” shared Karthik during the broadcast on the fourth day's play at the Lord's.

Jurel has been quite sharp with his glove-work in the game so far. He pounced on a sharp opportunity to ensure Ollie Pope walked back on the very first delivery of the post-Tea session on the first day. Jurel snagged a total of three catches in England's first innings.

He has also stepped up to keep wickets to speedsters Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy from up close on the fourth day. Not only this, Jurel has also been quite successful in managing to concede a lot of extras due to the variable bounce and unbridled swing by the pacers on occasions in London.

Despite needing medication and hence not taking the field after he got injured, Pant came out to bat in his team's first innings and performed quite well. He stroked a gritty 74 off 112 before getting run-out via a direct hit from cover point by the Three Lions skipper Ben Stokes.

Pant could most definitely be expected to recover by the time the fourth Test commences. Ever since making his Test debut in 2024 against the same opposition at home, Jurel has seemed to be the management's go-to wicketkeeper.
