Rohit Sharma gets irritated as phone rings during press conference, says 'switch it off'

India are taking on Australia in the finals of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. Ahead of the high clash encounter Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed the pre-match conference in Ahmedabad. While answering the questions from journalists, a phone which was kept for the recording started ringing which resulted in the usual rebuttal from Rohit Sharma in his style. 

Rohit exuded confidence in his squad, affirming their ability to tackle pressure situations, backed by ample experience within their ranks. He also gave and insight into his mindset and change in batting approach. He said “whenever we play such a tournament, the current form of players is more important than playing World Cup finals in the past. We have two players from 2011 as well who have been part of the World Cup final. We know how to handle pressure. We want to continue the way we have played so far.” 

"Before the start of the World Cup. I had plans to play such kind of cricket. I didn't know whether it will work or not. With little freedom I wanted to express myself. During England game also I changed my approach and that is what senior players do. I changed my tactics. I believe in going there and keeping it easy and calm. It will nice to do as we have work hard for it. I don't want to get excited and have too much pressure on it. It is not just me but also player in the changing room," Rohit added.

Rohit Sharma acknowledges Mohammed Shami missing out on initial games was tough

Rohit acknowledged the enormity of this moment in the players' careers, emphasising the team's necessity to make the ultimate push. Highlighting the significance of the occasion, the captain also empathised with Mohammed Shami, who, despite his exceptional form in this World Cup, faced the challenge of missing the opening games of the tournament.

India are set to face Australia again in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, seeking retribution for the heartrending defeat suffered in the 2003 pinnacle contest. Back then, the Ricky Ponting-led Australian team clinched a commanding victory over India, prevailing by 125 runs in the ODI World Cup finals. It was a lopsided affair as India struggled to find their footing throughout the match.
