SA20 2023: Matthew Wade joins Joburg Super Kings for remaining season

Joburg Super Kings announced the signing of veteran Australian Matthew Wade for the remainder of the SA20 2023 season on Tuesday (January 31). He replaces Alzarri Joseph, who has joined West Indies team for the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe, starting on February 4. 

Wade's addition will definitely boost Super Kings' chances of qualification for the knockouts. They are currently placed in the fourth position with four wins from the opening seven group-stage matches. Both Donvan Ferreira and Kyle Verreynne have struggled to show consistency while donning the wicketkeeping gloves for the Super Kings so far.

Wade captained Hobart Hurricanes in the ongoing Big Bash League 2022-23. He scored 307 runs from 12 innings at an average of 25.58 and a strike rate of 131.19 but the Hurricanes failed to reach the playoffs.

Tim David, Ben McDermott, and others joins SA20 2023:

Wade adds experience and finishing skills to Joburg Super Kings' squad as they will be looking to bag maximum points from the remaining three group-stage matches. They are also expected to announce a replacement signing for experienced spinner Aaron Phangiso soon. Phangiso has taken 10 wickets from just six innings in SA20 2023 but has been suspended due to illegal bowling action.

With BBL in the closing stages, many star cricketers are joining SA20 2023 for the remainder of the games. The star Australian big-hitter Tim David and young English pacer Henry Brookes have joined MI Cape Town. 

Durban Super Giants, who are struggling at the bottom of the SA20 table with just two wins from seven games, have added Ben McDermott and David Willey as they will be looking to bounce back after the break. They will be facing MI Cape Town on February 2 as SA20 2023 resumes after a nine-day break.
