Rohit Sharma’s form in the ongoing IPL 2023 season is a huge concern, especially with the World Test Championship final and 2023 ODI World Cup around the corner. The MI skipper has managed only 184 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 129.57 in the 16th edition of the cash-rich league so far.
Notably in MI’s last game against PBKS, the 36-year-old failed to open his tally and equalled the record for most ducks by a batter in the history of the tournament - tied with Dinesh Karthik, Mandeep Singh and Sunil Narine, all of whom have 15 ducks.
Speaking about his batting, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra stated that Rohit Sharma is getting out on short pitch deliveries, which was not the case previously.
“Rohit Sharma got out. I am still thinking if he is selling himself too short. I think he is. This shot is unbecoming of him - why? He was trying to jump out and hit in the first over and got out,” Chopra stated in the AakashVani show on JioCinema.
Chopra taken aback by MI playing three foreigners
Chopra also stated that he was surprised to see Mumbai Indians play with only three foreigners, even when their bowling unit has not fired this season. The 45-year-old stated that he was quite surprised to see MI use Suryakumar Yadav as their impact player.
“Then Suryakumar Yadav came with Ishan Kishan. Suryakumar Yadav was the Impact Player. I was a little surprised because only three overseas players were in their XI. Jason Behrendorff was available but they didn't play him. Mumbai played with only three overseas even though their bowling has been very pedestrian,” Chopra added.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians managed to beat Punjab Kings by six wickets and moved to number six in the IPL Points Table. Next up, the Rohit Sharma-led side will take on Chennai Super Kings on May 6 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
