India all-rounder Shivam Dube had an unusual journey back home after playing a key role in India’s triumph in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final. While most players flew out after the title clash, Dube opted for a far more modest route, travelling by train from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.
India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, successfully defending their title and becoming the first team to win three T20 World Cups.
However, Dube’s post-match travel plans did not go as expected. With flights from Ahmedabad to Mumbai fully booked following the final, the all-rounder decided to board an early-morning train instead. He travelled along with his wife and a friend, booking tickets in the 3rd AC compartment of Sayaji Express to reach home as quickly as possible.
“There were no flights available, so I decided to take a train from Ahmedabad to Mumbai early in the morning. We could have gone by road, but the train was faster,” Dube said while speaking to The Indian Express.
Aware that he could easily be recognised by fans, the 32-year-old tried to keep a low profile during the journey. He revealed that he wore a cap, a mask and a full-sleeved T-shirt in an attempt to remain unnoticed.
“I wore a cap, a mask and a full-sleeved T-shirt. It was a 5:10 am train, so we hoped there would not be many people on the platform. I told my wife that I will wait in the car till five minutes before the train’s departure. After that, I will rush to board the train," Dube said.
After arriving at Borivali station, local police reportedly escorted Dube off the platform to ensure a hassle-free exit. The all-rounder is expected to spend a few days with his family before joining the Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which kicks off on March 28.
Dube had an impactful campaign in India’s victorious tournament run and even played a cameo in the final, smashing 26 runs off just eight deliveries to help India post a massive total.
