India and New Zealand are locking horns in Match 21 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday, October 22 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and once again invited New Zealand to bat first. The decision was vindicated by Mohammed Shami who restricted the Kiwis to 273 with his third five-wicket haul of his career.

In the second innings, captain Rohit Sharma once again got his team off to an incredible start as he played a quick-fire innings of 46 off 40 smashing four fours and four sixes in his innings. The opening batter made his intentions clear in the first over itself as he glanced Trent Boult for four on the second ball. In the second over, he came down the track against Matt Henry and launched him over long on for a gigantic six.

However, the Indian skipper once again failed to complete his half-century as he chopped one back onto the stumps against Lockie Ferguson. As a result, India lost their first wicket on 71 after 11.1 overs. Following his dismissal, Shubman Gill (74 off 81), Shreyas Iyer (33 off 29) and KL Rahul (27 off 35) gave away their starts as New Zealand made a comeback in the middle overs.

Earlier in the day, after being put in to bat first, the Kiwis lost their openers Devon Conway (0 off 9) and Will Young (17 off 27) with just 17 runs on the board after 8.1 overs. Seeing their team in trouble, Rachin Ravindra (75 off 87) and Daryl Mitchell (130 off 127) got involved in a massive 159-run stand for the third wicket.

However, after their massive stand, India tightened their grip on the game as Mohammed Shami picked his third five-wicket haul of his career. The right-arm seamer registered figures of 5/54 in ten overs as New Zealand were bundled out for 273 in their allotted 50 overs.
