Sourav Ganguly has signalled a possibility of moving towards a full-time involvement with Delhi Capitals. The former Indian captain is currently the Director of Cricket of JSW Sports, the co-owner of the franchise. Ganguly alluded to his ceremonial and backend role over the last season. This is due to the dual ownership of the franchise.
"It's been a great journey. I've been involved with the Delhi Capitals franchise across teams, including the WPL. Last season, I worked more behind the scenes - building squads, planning auctions, and tracking performances - although I wasn't in the dugout for two years," stated Ganguly, as quoted by NDTV Sports.
He also credited DC co-owner and chairperson Parth Jindal for his involvement with the franchise and hinted on a possible involvement with DC for the 19th installment of the IPL.
"When Parth took over the franchise in 2019, I was deeply involved in shaping DC's direction and the team performed very well. After discussions with Parth, I decided to commit fully for a month (to Pretoria Capitals) - being involved in day-to-day activities, managing wins and losses and contributing during the auction. This is why I'm working full-time with the franchise this year and this involvement will continue into the upcoming IPL season as well," he added.
DC are co-owned by JSW Sports and the GMR Group. The franchise is run by the two in cycles comprising a two-year period. The duo of Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao have been appointed as head coach and director of cricket of the franchise, respectively, after Ricky Ponting, DC's long-time coach, departed prior to IPL 2025.
It looks a good wicket: Ganguly denies rank turner talk
In the meanwhile, Ganguly has been actively involved with the two subsidiary franchises of DC the Women's Premier League unit (Delhi Capitals Women) and their SA20 team Pretoria Capitals.
DC have not won a single installment of the IPL up until now. With proper retentions and acquisitions in the auction, they will be aiming on going all the way this time around.
