The ongoing five-game Test series between India and England is well underway as the hosts are leading by a 2-1 margin. Led by Ben Stokes, England managed to register a dominant win in the first Test but failed to replicate their performances in the next two matches. One of the most controversial moments of the series came during the third Test of the series.
Star England batter Zak Crawley was dismissed after an LBW decision that proved to be a controversial one. Despite reviewing the decision, the call stayed with the ball, just about clipping the leg-stump.
Seeing the moment, Stokes came forward to opine that the umpire’s call should be removed altogether, but the opinion did not stick well with former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg. The 53-year-old stated that the umpire’s call should stay, but the margin of error should be neutralised by the human element.
“For me, the more I think about it, the more I feel umpires call should be in there because the technology is slightly wrong. I understand it might have cost England at some important stage, but it could cost the opposition too. Stop whingeing about the DRS. It's the same for both sides,” the former cricketer said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Stokes' bowling is good for England: Hogg
Furthermore, Hogg also talked of England Test skipper Ben Stokes’ repertoire with the ball. With the skipper rolling his arm in the nets ahead of the fourth Test against India, Hogg opined that the visitors should not push Stokes to bowl against the hosts.
“Ben Stokes' bowling is good for England, but they don't want to push him too hard. If he injures his knee again and with the T20 World Cup coming up if he is not their premium all-rounder, it's going to be costly. Good to see the coach and medical staff stepping in and taking control,” the former Aussie spinner said.
If the conditions allow for it, Stokes’ bowling could come in real handy for England if they are looking to level the series against India.
