Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra feels that the Sunrisers Hyderabad will have to ensure they spend their purse wisely in the upcoming IPL 2023 mini-Auction in Kochi on December 23. The franchise decided to let go off Kane Williamson, who did not have the best of seasons last year, and are yet to name a skipper.
The 2016 IPL champions will enter the auction with the highest purse amount of 42.25 Crore. Notably, SRH still have 13 slots to fill out of which four slots are likely to go for the overseas names. They will have the luxury to go for world class all-rounders like Ben Stokes, Sam Curran or Cameron Green who can contribute in all three departments and add a lot of value to the side.
Ever since SRH let Rashid Khan go, spinners have been a problem: Aakash Chopra
Chopra mentioned that SRH might be able to pick both Stokes and Green given the purse amount they have. He further noted that SRH will have to make wise decisions with the money during the auction. He concluded that SRH have lacked the quality spin option since releasing Rashid Khan and felt they should go for the mystery spinner Sikandar Raza who was outstanding in the recent T20 World Cup 2022.
"The focus for Hyderabad should probably be on getting both Ben Stokes and Cameron Green. If not Green, then they might go hard for Curran. They have a lot of money but they will need to spend it wisely, or else there's no point," Aakash Chopra told on his YouTube Channel
“Ever since they let Rashid Khan go, spinners have been a problem. They can go for Sikandar Raza, or Indian options like Amit Mishra and Piyush Chawla," he added.
SRH Retained players: Rahul Tripathi, Glenn Phillips, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Abdul Samad, Washington Sundar, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan, Kartik Tyagi, Fazalhaq Farooqi
