India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is reportedly in London, but not as part of the ongoing Test series against England. While Shubman Gill and his men are preparing for the five-match Test series, Suryakumar is in the UK for a medical procedure that he is likely to undergo in the coming days. Though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not issued an official update, according to reports, the procedure could take a month or two for full recovery.

Given the current break in India's white-ball calendar and no immediate international assignments, especially in T20Is, the 34-year-old batter has a window to focus on his fitness and recovery.

India's next assignment in the shortest format is in August, when they travel to Bangladesh for a white-ball tour, followed by a home series against South Africa and the West Indies, further followed by an away series against Australia. Suryakumar's decision to get back to his full fitness is set to be a lead-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar was in brilliant form with the bat in the recent IPL as the middle-order batter led the run charts for his team Mumbai Indians with 717 runs in 16 innings at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.9. Suryakumar scored 25 or more in all 16 games he played, making a record for consecutive 25+ scores in men’s T20s.

His performances were crucial in guiding the Mumbai Indians to the playoffs. Though MI’s dream run ended with a loss to Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. Post the IPL, he turned up for Triumph Knights MNE in the Mumbai T20 League. However, his team had a disappointing run, managing just one win in five matches and missing out on a playoff berth. He scored 122 runs in five innings in the league.
