India cricketer Suryakumar Yadav gave a witty response while addressing reporters ahead of the third T20I. Team India won the second T20I by six wickets and leveled the series 1-1 to set a date for a cracking decider against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on February 1, 2023.
A lot of cacophony had aroused after the conclusion of the second T20I in Lucknow, with both captains posing serious complaints about the quality of the pitch. Indian skipper Hardik Pandya went on to label the Ekana Stadium pitch as an absolute "shocker", and his statement even led to the pitch curator being sacked.
Ahead of the decider game, Suryakumar Yadav adressed the media in the pre-match press conference. When a reporter asked him how he managed to keep himself calm and composed during immense pressure situations in the matches, and also managed to finish things off for India in style with so much consistency, the right-hander had a witty response. He said:
“T20 Ranchi me chalu hua tha toh calm attitude udhar se hi aaya (T20 series started in Ranchi so the calm attitude originated from there)."
Suryakumar was quick to credit MS Dhoni as a factor, drawing reference to the fact that the T20I series had commenced at Ranchi, which happens to be the hometown of the former India captain. Dhoni is famously dubbed as 'Captain Cool' and 'Finisher' due to his ability to keep a cool head while captaining a team, and also finishing matches in his team's favour.

Suryakumar also went on to credit the fact that he had got to play a lot of domestic cricket before even making his international debut, which helped him to get well acquainted with the Indian conditions. He also stated that his teammates helped him a lot in refining his skills.
"But I guess a lot of domestic cricket which I played before making my international debut, that has helped me a lot. Because the grind that we have there, we play on difficult conditions, challenging tracks and you have to apply yourselves, so whatever I have learned there I have carried it here. Rest whatever I have learned is by watching the senior players and talking to them about how they tackle various difficult situations,” he added.
Suryakumar was the main batter yet again for the Men in Blue during their 100-run chase against the Black Caps in the second T20I. Though the target wasn't too much, the pitch turned out to be a nightmare for batters of both sides. Yet, Suryakumar was the highest scorer, finishing with 26* off 31 deliveries, also managing to hit some boundaries.
