India edged past England by seven runs in the second semi-final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium on March 5 to book their place in the final. They will now face New Zealand on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Batting first, India posted a massive 253/7 in their 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma’s lean run continued as he departed for nine, but the setback had little impact. Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan turned the game around with a blistering 97-run partnership off just 45 balls for the second wicket. Samson was the standout performer, smashing 89 off 42 deliveries, including eight fours and seven sixes at an astonishing strike rate of 211.90.

Kishan chipped in with a quickfire 39 off 18 balls, while Shivam Dube provided late impetus with 43 off 25 deliveries. Hardik Pandya added 27 from 12 balls, and Tilak Varma’s explosive 21 off just seven balls powered India past the 250-mark. For England, Will Jacks (2/40) and Adil Rashid (2/41) were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, England mounted a fierce challenge, finishing at 246/7 in their 20 overs. Jacob Bethell played a sensational knock, scoring 105 off 48 balls, laced with eight fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 218.75. Will Jacks contributed 35 off 20 balls, and the pair stitched together a 77-run stand off 39 balls for the fifth wicket. Bethell also added a 50-run partnership with Sam Curran for the sixth wicket to keep England in contention.

However, regular wickets in the middle overs hurt England’s momentum. Hardik Pandya led the bowling effort for India with figures of 2/38 in his four overs, while Varun Chakravarthy endured an expensive outing, conceding 64 runs.

With this victory, India advanced to their fourth T20 World Cup final, the most by any team, and will aim to defend their title and become the first side to win the tournament three times.
