When it comes to the shortest format of the game, South Africa have been absolutely phenomenal after the T20 World Cup 2021. Even though Temba Bavuma and company suffered a series defeat at the hands of India recently, they have a lot of positives going forward.
David Miller has been exceptional for the team so far and wicketkeeper-batter Quinton De Kock has also looked in splendid form. Rilee Rossouw hit a magnificent century against India in the third T20I of the series and is the kind of player who can dominate against any bowling line-up in the world. Amidst all the positives, captain Bavuma’s form is a major concern for the team.
The white-ball captain of the South African team hasn’t been picked up by any franchise for the inaugural SA20 league and Bavuma seems to be under tremendous amount of pressure to prove his critics wrong. His position in the playing XI is also being questioned by a lot of fans on social media as Reeza Hendricks is currently not a part of the playing XI.
Coming to the bowlers, the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje will be South Africa’s asset in Australia. As the pitches often offer plenty of bounce in Australia, these pacers can do a lot of damage. Wayne Parnell’s experience will also come in handy. The inconsistency in the spin department can be an issue but the team is good enough to tackle that.
To conclude, South Africa will be one of the contenders for the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, with India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in their group, things will definitely not be easy for the Proteas. The team will play their first match on October 24, 2022 against the winners of Group B (First Round) at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
