Team England and Sri Lanka came out victorious in their respective group-stage matches against New Zealand and Afghanistan on November 1 (Tuesday). Both teams earned two vital points for themselves and will now look to move ahead in the competition.

Speaking about the first game, Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first on the Gabba track. Several Afghani batters including Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Usman Ghani, and Ibrahim Zadran got starts with the bat, but none of them managed to convert it.

Senior batters Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, and Gulbadin Naib also threw away their wickets as the batting team managed to post just 144 runs after losing a total of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Sri Lanka's ace-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga was the pick of the bowlers as he took three wickets for his side.

In reply, Sri Lankan openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis had a cautious start but spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman got the better of Nissanka. After the fall of the Nissanka, senior batter Dhananjaya de Silva took the crease for the batting team and he completely brushed aside the Afghanistan bowling line-up.

The right-handed batter played an unbeaten knock of 66 runs in just 42 balls and helped his side complete an easy victory over their opponents. Apart from him, Mendis (25 runs), Charith Asalanka (19 runs), and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (18 runs) played some handy knocks with the bat.

England completed a comfortable victory over New Zealand

The Three Lions were on the top of their game as they completed a thumping victory over the Kiwi side at The Gabba. Batting first, England's skipper Jos Buttler and Alex Hales stroked the fifties with the bat as England went on to score 179 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, the skipper Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips tried their level best to win the game for the Blackcaps, but it was too much of an ask from both the batters as they fell short by 20 runs with both Chris Woakes and Sam Curran scalping two wickets each for their team.
